7.1 Magnitude Quake Hits Chile

On Sunday, Chile experienced an earthquake that registered higher than a 7 on the Richter scale. Despite the fact that an earthquake of this magnitude is considered a "major" earthquake and can result in large scale destruction, there have been no reported deaths, casualties, or serious damage to property. According to emergency services duty officer Felipe Plaza, there is no threat of a tsunami, and apart from some downed communication lines, there does not seem to be any significant impact on the daily business routine.
