Windows Virus Wreaks Havoc
A virus for the Microsoft Windows operating system, known variously as Conficker, Downadup, or Kido, has now infected more than 3.5 million computers, according to the BBC. It works by inserting itself into the system's execution and downloading malicious software from the attacker's computer. The United States has only aout 4,000 infected computers, but the BBC warns that the virus, first discovered four months ago, can spread in many ways, including both the internet and USB flash drives. Microsoft has released a patch for the virus that whould reduce or eliminate the risk, which can be found here.
