Scarecrow Decorating Contest in Colchester, CT

According to the Rivereast News Bulliten, the town of Colchester is having its 10th-annual scarecrow decorating contest.

Participants line their pumpkin-headed creations along the Town Green. The scarecrows come in many different varieties. Include are a wooden scarecrow on a bike with a pumpkin replica of E.T. in an attached basket reminiscent of the 1982 film, submitted by the Riley family of Colchester. A fishing scarecrow was also submitted by the Wyatt family. Three scarecrows dressed in hot pink were submitted by "Shattered Endz" Hair Salon to raise breast cancer awareness. Local residents can go to different local businesses to cast their vote for their favorite scarecrow.

Last year, participants also entered a variety of different scarecrows. Of these were a pair of Scarecrows made to resemble John McCain and Barrack Obama submitted by "Shattered Endz" during the presidential campaign betweeen them.

"I love it... I think it's a great idea so that people can get excited about fall in New England. It's just a nice group activity," said Anita Pizutiello, Colchester Parks and Recreation supervisor and an organizer of the contest.
