East Hartford Fire



An all day fire in East Hartford today caused an enormous amount of black smoke that could be seen for miles. The fire started around 9 a.m at 71 George Street in a commercial building. Many firefighters from surrounding towns including Manchester, Hartford, Glastonbury, New Britain, and West Hartford were called in to help. East Hartford Assistant Fire Chief William Perez explained that the fire moved "into an office building at 79 George St., destroying that building as well". The workers had been evacuated by the time help arrived. The cause of the fire is still undetermined.
